Green Breakfast Smoothie

What do you do when you’re pressed for time but still want a nutritious breakfast? Make a smoothie to-go, of course! This green smoothie is quick, easy and mess-free. I know many people use spinach in their smoothies but if you don’t have any, any greens on-hand works fine too. Just blanch them in hot water for a few seconds if you’re not a big fan of raw greens (careful not to leave them in the water for too long, though!). Ingredients:  1 1/2 frozen bananas A handful of greens 3/4 cup milk of choice (I use plant-based milk) 2 tbsp chia seeds 1/4 cup oats Optional:  Yoghurt Directions: Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and...

Pandan Gula Melaka Coffee

Obsessing over this Pandan Gula Melaka Coffee right now. Had my first taste during a short trip to Malacca and of course, had to give it a go at making it at home! You can adjust the sweetness depending on your preference or add as much coffee as you please (always a bonus), making it your own perfect drink. Ingredients: 1 tbsp gula melaka syrup (see directions below to make your own from scratch) 1 cup unsweetened organic soy milk (or any other non-dairy milk) 2 pandan leaves 1-2 shot(s) espresso coffee Ice cubes Directions: If making your own gula melaka syrup, add in 4 medium solid cubes of gula melaka and a splash of water in a saucepan. Boil...

Anti-Inflammatory Tumeric Milk

Circumin, the yellow pigment in turmeric contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants. I’ve been having mild allergies again the past few days, so this turmeric milk has done wonders for my body! This recipe calls for black pepper because it’s found that black pepper significantly improves the absorption of circumin in the body but if you’re allergic to it, go ahead and do without.  Ingredients:  1-inch fresh turmeric, peeled and chopped (use more depending on your tolerance) Pinch of cinnamon Pinch of black pepper (freshly ground if possible) 1 cup milk of choice (I recommend using any non-dairy milk, as it’s friendlier to the body and easier to digest) Raw honey or maple syrup to taste, optional (I personally leave...

Easy Strawberry Banana Nice-Cream

The heat can be craaazy here and sometimes that means taking a shower and sweating again immediately after. *dying A friend recently came back from Camerons with a bag of strawberries for me, so what better way than to turn them into nice-creams! Nice-cream basically means blended frozen bananas but this time adding a little twist with the strawberries. I also added some plant milk and baby oats just because I had them in my pantry. But if you want a creamier texture, you can replace plant milk with coconut milk. Ingredients: 2 frozen bananas 1 cup frozen strawberries 1/2 cup hazelnut milk (or any milk of choice) 1/4 cup baby oats Toppings: Strawberry slices Directions: Blend all ingredients in a...

Healthy Chocolate Sauce

This recipe only uses unsweetened raw cacao powder which is naturally packed with antioxidants. It’s heart-healthy and contains none of that added sugars. Win! You can get raw cacao powder at the organic section of supermarkets (Village Grocer, Jaya Grocer) and even regular bakery shops. If you can only find cocoa powder, that works fine too. Use this chocolate sauce as you would with the store-bought ones. Drizzle over your smoothies, ice-cream, cakes, fruits – anything at all! Ingredients: 4 tbsp raw unsweetened cacao powder 1-2 tbsp pure honey or maple syrup 4-5 tbsp coconut oil (gradually add the oil while mixing and stop when you’ve reached your desired consistency) Directions: Mix the raw cacao powder and sweetener into a bowl....
